Banking operations across several Indian cities will be suspended on Friday, April 18, 2025, in observance of Good Friday, as per the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) official holiday calendar. While Saturday, April 19, remains a regular working day for banks, Sunday, April 20, will be a routine weekly off.
Cities Where Banks Will Remain Closed
According to the RBI, bank branches will remain closed on April 18 in most states, with exceptions in Tripura, Assam, Rajasthan, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, and Srinagar, where operations will continue as normal.
Recent Bank Closures This Month
This closure follows a series of recent bank holidays across different states in India:
April 14, 2025: Banks remained shut in multiple regions due to a convergence of regional festivals and observances including Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti, Vishu, Bihu, and Tamil New Year.
Cities impacted included Mumbai, New Delhi, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Odisha, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
However, banks in Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, and Himachal Pradesh remained operational on that day.
Extended Weekend Closure
Earlier in the month, bank customers experienced an extended closure during the second weekend of April:

April 12, 2025 (Second Saturday): Banks were closed, in accordance with RBI’s guidelines.

April 13, 2025 (Sunday): Being a regular weekend off, banks remained closed across the country.
Mahavir Jayanti Observance
On April 10, 2025, select cities observed a holiday for Mahavir Jayanti. Bank closures were reported in cities such as Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Raipur, and Ranchi.
However, operations continued in other regions where Mahavir Jayanti is not a gazetted holiday under local jurisdiction.
