U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt (R-Missouri) has announced plans to introduce legislation that would designate Easter Monday as a federal holiday, allowing families to spend more time together during one of Christianity’s most significant observances.
In a series of posts on the social media platform X, Schmitt outlined the reasoning behind his proposal, emphasizing the importance of the holiday for many Americans. “Eighty-one percent of Americans celebrate Easter,” Schmitt said, adding that the current federal holiday calendar makes it difficult for families to fully observe the day together. He noted that Easter falls during one of the longest uninterrupted stretches of work in the calendar year, with March and April being the only consecutive months without a federal holiday.
Schmitt’s proposal aims to address these challenges, ensuring that families have the opportunity to celebrate Easter in unity.
