Amid soaring temperatures across Chhattisgarh, the state’s School Education Department has announced summer holidays for all government and private schools, effective from April 25 to June 15.
The move comes in response to persistent heatwave conditions, with temperatures nearing 44 degrees Celsius in Raipur and other parts of the state. Officials said the early closure is aimed at protecting students from potential heat-related illnesses.
According to the official notification, the summer vacation applies to all government, aided, unaided, and private schools across the state. However, the order does not extend to teaching staff, and all other departmental directives will remain unchanged.
The decision follows growing concern from parents, educators, and local authorities about the rising temperatures. Earlier this week, Raigarh Mayor Jeevardhan Chauhan wrote to the district collector urging the closure of schools in light of the extreme weather conditions. Reports also indicated growing unrest among schoolchildren coping with the heat.
“The health and well-being of our students is our top priority,” a department spokesperson said. “This measure is intended to provide immediate relief and prevent cases of heatstroke or other heat-related health issues.”
Parents and educators have largely welcomed the government’s decision, viewing it as a necessary precaution in light of the increasingly harsh summer conditions.
The state government continues to monitor weather developments closely and has urged residents to take appropriate precautions during the ongoing heatwave.
