As Maharashtra Day approaches on May 1, Mumbai traffic police have issued a road advisory to manage the flow of vehicles during the state holiday. The day will feature the annual parade at Shivaji Park in Dadar, and significant traffic restrictions are expected, particularly between 6:00 AM and 12:00 PM.
What is Maharashtra Day?
Maharashtra Day, also known as Maharashtra Din, is observed annually on May 1 to commemorate the creation of the state of Maharashtra in 1960. On this day, the former Bombay State was divided into Maharashtra and Gujarat, with Maharashtra becoming the home for Marathi and Konkani-speaking populations. The day holds great historical significance, and public and private events, including parades, political speeches, and ceremonies, are organized across the state to mark the occasion.
In 2025, Maharashtra Day coincides with International Labour Day, adding further importance to the observance of the holiday.
