The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on April 4, 2025, in observance of the death anniversary of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the founder of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and former Prime Minister. The decision was made official through a formal notification issued by the provincial government.
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, a key figure in Pakistan’s political history, remains a central figure for the PPP, with his political ideology continuing to guide the party’s direction.
In a related development, a presidential reference concerning the case of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was presented to the Supreme Court of Pakistan. In March 2024, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa delivered an opinion on the matter, addressing five key questions raised in the reference. Justice Isa noted that Bhutto was not granted a fair trial and called for the judiciary to acknowledge past mistakes to move forward. He emphasized that the system could not be corrected without accepting and rectifying past errors.
Justice Isa’s opinion, which was unanimously endorsed by the Supreme Court, reaffirmed that judges are bound by the law in their decisions. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was present during the proceedings in the Supreme Court.
The observance of Zulfikar Bhutto’s death anniversary holds significant political and historical importance, particularly for the PPP and its supporters.
