Macao’s tourism sector experienced a surge in visitors during the four-day Easter holiday, surpassing expectations with an average daily visitor count of 130,000, significantly higher than last year’s numbers. According to the Macao Daily News, the positive turnout marked a major boost for local tourism operators.
The holiday’s success was attributed to a well-balanced distribution of visitors across various districts, with many choosing to explore local attractions and landmarks. Tourism operators hailed this as a promising sign for the revitalization of the community economy, setting a hopeful tone for the upcoming May 1 Golden Week.
Andy Wu, Chairman of the Travel Industry Council of Macau (TICM), highlighted the enthusiasm shown by tourists who flocked to local districts, not only for sightseeing but also to indulge in the city’s renowned culinary offerings and photo-worthy locations. This, he noted, contributed to a noticeable increase in local consumption.
Despite ongoing economic challenges, particularly among Hong Kong and mainland Chinese visitors, who exhibited cautious spending habits, Wu stressed the importance of maintaining a steady flow of visitors to help sustain the momentum in the local economy.
Looking ahead, tourism professionals are optimistic about an even stronger turnout during the May 1 Golden Week, a key period for Macao’s tourism industry. With the successful Easter holiday as a foundation, the sector is eager to capitalize on the upcoming celebrations and further boost the local economy.
