DWP Benefit and Pension Payments to Change for May Bank Holidays

by Bella

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced that benefit and pension payments for May 2025 will be affected by the upcoming Bank Holidays. Both the May Day Bank Holiday on May 5 and the Spring Bank Holiday on May 26 will result in changes to payment schedules for several DWP benefits.

Payment Schedule Adjustments for May Bank Holidays

During both Bank Holidays, DWP payments will not be processed. If you are due to receive benefits on either of these days, you may find that your payment arrives earlier than expected.

  • Payments originally scheduled for Monday, May 5 will be issued on Friday, May 2.

  • Payments due on Monday, May 26 will be processed on Friday, May 23.

If your payment is not affected by the Bank Holidays, it will be made as scheduled, and the amount you are due will remain unchanged.

Benefits Affected by the May Bank Holidays

The following benefits are likely to experience payment date changes due to the May Bank Holidays:

  • Attendance Allowance

  • Carer’s Allowance

  • Child Benefit

  • Disability Living Allowance

  • Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)

  • Income Support

  • Jobseeker’s Allowance

  • Pension Credit

  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

  • State Pension

  • Tax Credits

  • Universal Credit

While early payments may help beneficiaries during the holiday period, it is important to remember that these early payments will cover a longer period, as payments will return to their normal schedule afterwards.

Additional Bank Holidays in 2025

In addition to the May Bank Holidays, several other public holidays across the UK may affect payment dates. Local holidays, particularly in Scotland, could also cause delays in payments due to regional closures.

  • Glasgow: Local holiday on September 29

  • Edinburgh: Local holiday on September 15

  • Dundee: Local holiday on October 6

Recipients are advised to check with their bank to confirm the exact payment dates, particularly if they live in areas with local holidays.

For more information on benefit payments or changes to the DWP payment schedule, beneficiaries are encouraged to visit the official DWP website or contact their bank directly.
