Vietnam will observe a five-day public holiday from April 30 to May 4, 2025, in celebration of Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers’ Day (May 1). The break, which runs from Wednesday to Sunday, will be compensated by a workday on Saturday, April 26.
The announcement, made by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, also includes a one-day holiday for Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day on Monday, April 7, 2025 (falling on March 10 of the lunar calendar). Government employees and workers will enjoy a three-day break from April 5 to April 7, as this holiday coincides with the weekend.
For the extended April 30–May 1 holiday, workers will make up for the extra days off by working on Saturday, April 26. While businesses with flexible weekend schedules can adjust their holiday plans as needed, the Ministry encourages them to follow the national holiday calendar to ensure employees receive adequate rest.
Employers who require staff to work during public holidays must provide compensation in accordance with the 2019 Labor Code. Under the law, employees working on public holidays are entitled to overtime pay. Specifically, those working during the day on Lunar New Year are entitled to 300% of their regular daily wage, while employees working at night during public holidays or Tet are entitled to 390% of their regular daily wage.
This holiday schedule is part of Vietnam’s ongoing efforts to provide workers with rest and proper compensation, while also ensuring business operations continue smoothly.
