Sharjah Announces Eid Al Fitr Holidays for Public Sector

by Bella

Sharjah has officially declared the Eid Al Fitr holiday schedule for public sector employees, with the break expected to last up to six days. The holiday will begin on Shawwal 1 and end on Shawwal 3, 1446 AH, as per the Sharjah Government’s Department of Human Resources.

Government work will resume on Shawwal 4, 1446 AH, except for those working in shifts. If Eid Al Fitr falls on Sunday, March 30, public sector employees in Sharjah will enjoy a five-day holiday, starting Friday, March 28 and ending Tuesday, April 1. If the holiday begins on Monday, March 31, employees will get a six-day break from Friday, March 28 through Wednesday, April 2.

The Eid Al Fitr holiday applies to all government departments, authorities, and institutions in Sharjah. This announcement follows the UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources’ earlier declaration of the holiday schedule for government employees nationwide.

The start of Eid Al Fitr will depend on the sighting of the crescent moon, expected to occur on March 29. If the moon is spotted on this date, Eid will begin on Sunday, March 30, leading to a four-day break from March 29 to April 1, as Saturday is already a weekend for most employees in the country.

However, if the moon is not sighted on March 29 and Ramadan completes its full 30 days, the Eid Al Fitr holiday will start on March 31. In this case, residents will enjoy a five-day weekend from March 29 to April 2.
