Sindh Declares Public Holiday for Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s Death Anniversary

The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on Friday, April 4, to mark the 46th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

A formal notification issued by the Sindh Chief Secretary confirmed that all government offices, autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils across the province will remain closed in observance of the day.

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which Bhutto founded, will host a significant gathering at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh in Sindh to honor his legacy. A large turnout of party workers and supporters from various parts of the country is expected to attend the commemoration.

The public holiday follows the Eid-ul-Fitr break, which concluded on April 2, 2025.

Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was executed on April 4, 1979, after a controversial trial and subsequent death sentence upheld by then-President General Ziaul Haq. He was hanged at the Central Jail in Rawalpindi and later laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh.

In related news, PPP President Asif Ali Zardari, the current party leader, is expected to miss the ceremony due to health concerns. Zardari, who has tested positive for COVID-19, is currently in isolation. Dr. Asim Hussain, a physician attending to the former president, stated that Zardari is under close observation, with multiple tests conducted to monitor his condition.

“The president is receiving care from infectious disease specialists at a private hospital. All meetings with him have been strictly restricted due to his health status,” Dr. Hussain confirmed.
