As the Easter holiday approaches, travelers heading to popular destinations in Italy and Greece may face significant disruptions due to planned aviation strikes.
On April 9, 2025, EasyJet flight attendants in Italy are set to walk off the job for four hours, from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM local time. The strike, called by the Italian Federation of Transport Workers (FILT), the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL), and the Italian Union of Transport (UIL), is expected to cause disruptions at Milan and Naples airports, with some flights to and from these hubs likely to be canceled or delayed.
In response, EasyJet issued a statement assuring customers that the airline is working to minimize the impact of the strike. “We are doing all we can to reduce any disruption, and should any flights be affected, we will contact customers directly to assist with rearranging their plans,” the airline said.
The strike in Italy coincides with a separate labor action in Greece, where air traffic controllers are planning a 24-hour strike on the same day, also disrupting Easter travel. The Greek Air Traffic Controllers’ Association, citing ongoing staffing shortages and equipment issues, explained that the strike would significantly affect commercial flights to and from Greece’s busy holiday destinations. Only essential services, such as medical, search and rescue, humanitarian aid, and military flights, will be managed during the strike.
The Greek strike is organized by the public sector employee federation ADEDY, which is calling for improved working conditions, including the reinstatement of bonus holiday pay, wage increases, and measures to address the country’s housing crisis.
With both Italy and Greece expected to experience significant air traffic disruptions, travelers are advised to monitor their flight statuses closely and prepare for potential delays or cancellations.
