Vidhana Soudha to Shine with New Lights on Weekends and Public Holidays

by Bella

Karnataka’s Vidhana Soudha, the seat of the state legislature, will be illuminated every weekend and on public holidays as part of a new initiative aimed at enhancing the city’s skyline. The permanent lighting system was officially inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday evening, with the building glowing in the national tricolour.

The lights will be turned on from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM during weekends and public holidays. Plans are in place to extend this illumination to every day of the week in the future.

Addressing the event, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized the building’s symbolic importance. “The people of Karnataka have entrusted us with the responsibility of ensuring justice for every citizen, including the most marginalized. We must live up to the ideals for which Vidhana Soudha was built,” he said.

The initiative was applauded by Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader, who was recognized for his role in bringing the illumination project to fruition.

Expansion Plans for City Lighting

Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar announced that plans are underway to extend the lighting initiative to other key landmarks in the city. Metro pillars and heritage buildings are among the next targets for illumination, with 40 locations already identified. A detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared, and tenders will soon be invited for the project.

The event was also attended by Ministers K.J. George, H.K. Patil, and senior officials including Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh and Additional Chief Secretary L.K. Atheeq.
